An experiment with 801 people showed confidence falls early and then rebounds with more experience
Buyer behaviour
- Reader Note:
- This is the controlled experiment rather than any of the four review datasets. Participants rated 10 photographs using Royal Photographic Society criteria, reported confidence in each judgment on a 1 to 7 scale, and moved through four experience blocks from the first photo to the last three photos. This tests the confidence trajectory in a novel evaluation task rather than an actual purchase setting, and the source does not state when the experiment ran.
- Evidence:
- Experimental
- Vendor interest:
- None
- Sample:
- Multimethod source: 1,046,922 wine notes from 30,141 CellarTracker users; 1,451,766 BeerAdvocate reviews from 32,563 users; 984,573 RateBeer reviews from 19,679 users; 229,267 Sephora reviews from 11,994 users with at least 10 reviews; plus an experiment with 801 Mechanical Turk participants.
Good for
Backing budget and pricing decisions in similar situations.
Not for
- Situations far from the one tested, without checking again.
- This was measured in one market. It may not hold where you are.
