Reddit posts from 2025 onward, likely too new to be in AI training data, matched AI chatbots’ brand rankings almost as closely as pre-2023 posts (0.469 vs 0.513)
Entity & brand presence
- Reader Note:
- The study ranked brands by how often and how positively they were discussed on Reddit, then compared that ranking with which brands ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini recommend. The score is a rank correlation from 0 (no match) to 1 (identical order), averaged across 12 consumer product categories. Posts were split by age: before 2023 (likely seen by AI models in training) scored 0.513, 2023–2024 scored 0.460, and 2025 onward (likely not seen) scored 0.469. The difference between the oldest and newest group is not statistically significant. The author reads this as a sign that Reddit and AI may both reflect the same market signals, not only that AI learned from old Reddit posts. This is an observational, not peer-reviewed preprint from an AI consultancy, so it shows alignment, not cause.
- Evidence:
- Observed behaviour
- Vendor interest:
- Low
- Sample:
- Reddit corpus of 12,187 unique posts and 103,696 comments from 60 subreddits across 20 categories; AI side used 50 product recommendation queries across 4 platforms, each run 3 times, plus 15 API queries and 100 web UI queries for citation testing.
Good for
Comparing yourself against a similar segment, and choosing what to test next.
Not for
- Saying that one thing caused another, or predicting what you would get.
- Nobody counted this directly — it's a calculation. The publisher worked it out itself, or took the ad platform's word for what its ads achieved.
- The source talks about this as cause and effect — that is its reading, not a finding.
- The source says how much it looked at, but not how any of it was chosen.
